Ring install instructions clearly say you have to install to a junction box. But looking at it, I can't figure out why. The old one has the same piece as the new one, which is a metal circle with two large screws pointing out to secure the floodlight.
Unfortunately the ring is a standard size flood light expecting a standard round electrical box. It doesn't fit the existing so it won't have a complete seal allowing water to enter the Ring lights. I searched the wishlist and could not find anything like this. I recently purchased the Wyze Floodlight with cam V3 to install on the outside of my garage so that it would be overlooking the driveway to watch my cars. I later realized that since I do not have an existing light outside I will have to make a hole in the wall to install an electrical box and hire an electrician .Since they're a standard 4" round junction box, the new Ring floodlights significantly overhang the junction box - and since they're soffit mounted, that just means the foam will be directly exposed to water when it rains (and the water will just sit on top of the foam).I replaced an existing floodlight with a ring floodlight.
